Experience the action of the big screen at your finger tips and unleash your inner cumbia power to save the galaxy.

La Curandera Cumbiambera GBC is a retro arcade style shoot em’ up based on the animated film by the same name.  Battle across five levels with five bosses featuring distant planets from the animation La Curandera Cumbiambera.

The original heavy metal cumbia soundtrack from the film’s composer and director Ivan Flores and Discos Resaca Collective has been faithfully converted to the Game Boy.  The game’s graphics and coding are from the film’s official lead animator John Coulter.

Available for Game Boy Color hardware and emulation.

TIPS

The Player has infinite lives and continues.

Start pauses the game, however, the A button unpauses the game.

Press UP to boost, and DOWN to brake.  Both actions have a short cooldown timer.

Study the bosses patterns to defeat them.

La Curandera Cumbiambera GBC was made using Gbstudio 3.2.1 and is inspired by games like 1942, Star Fox, and Ikaruga.  Feedback is appreciated.

Me encanta!! Love that you made gameboy CUMBIA?! This is such a lovely genre lmao

Salu2! Thank you. I have been a cumbia musician and animator for many years and am getting into coding games recently.  A colleague and close friend Ivan Flores and his band Discos Resaca Collective composed the soundtrack for the Curandera game and film.  I have some more cumbia themed games scheduled for release in October and November this year.

Will be following up! Thx for the info. Will check them out too! Composing for GB is tedious so nice work tbh!

I appreciate it.  I personally compose and play keyboard and sax for mostly cumbia but other Latin Jazz genres as well. Learning to make music for the Gameboy was a challenge to learn but I really enjoy it now.  Being limited to 4 tracks, limited sounds, and building a song on a spreadsheet is a bit wild.  But it works :)
